Choosing Clawfoot Tub Faucets

Clawfoot tub faucets offer plenty of faucet body style, faucet handle, and finish options. While personal preference weighs heavily in the choice of a clawfoot tub filler, there are fundamental project requirements that should first be considered to narrow the scope of clawfoot tub faucet selection. Antique reproductions of tub wall mounted vintage clawfoot tub faucets include downspout clawfoot tub fillers, gooseneck clawfoot tub faucets, and British telephone clawfoot tub fittings. Thermostatic clawfoot tub faucets offer a modern interpretation of antique originals. Many tub wall mount clawfoot tub faucets include a handheld shower.

Deck Mount Clawfoot Tub Faucets

Deck mounted clawfoot tub faucets install through faucet holes drilled in the rim of a clawfoot bathtub or in the deck around a built-in tub or whirlpool. Rim faucet holes are conventionally drilled at either 7" or 8" centers. Consequently, most rim mounted clawfoot tub faucets are either 7" or 8" centers but some models include swivel arms for adjustable centers. Deck mounted clawfoot tub fillers are popular for larger soaker style clawfoot tubs and pedestal tubs because they provide more free space inside the wall of the tub.

Freestanding Clawfoot Tub Faucets

Freestanding clawfoot tub faucets are perfect for bathtubs that do not have faucet holes. Floor mounted clawfoot tub fillers mount on freestanding supply lines independent of the tub. They are typically braced to an adjacent wall or the tub drain. Like deck mounted clawfoot tub faucets, floor mounted clawfoot tub fittings are popular for soaker pedestal tubs and clawfoot tubs because they do not occupy space inside the bathing well. Most freestanding clawfoot tub faucets are simply a tub wall mounted clawfoot tub faucet that has been modified and augmented with freestanding clawfoot tub supply lines.

Wall Mount Clawfoot Tub Faucets

Wall mounted clawfoot tub faucets are configured to mount on a finished bathroom wall. Unlike other clawfoot tub faucets, wall mounted clawfoot tub filler have no exposed supply lines. Supplies are roughed-in behind the finished wall. Wall mounted clawfoot tub fittings are best suited for built-in tubs and clawfoot tubs that are placed in close proximity to a bathroom wall.

Clawfoot Tub Supply Lines

Clawfoot tub supply lines are required to complete the installation of tub wall mounted clawfoot tub faucets and deck mounted clawfoot tub faucets. The location of faucet holes determines the correct clawfoot tub supply lines just it as it defines clawfoot tub faucets. Freestanding clawfoot tub faucets include the supply lines and, as indicated above, exposed supplies are not necessary for wall mounted clawfoot tub fillers. Clawfoot Tub Drains

Clawfoot tub drains are simple in function but shouldn't be ignored when choosing a clawfoot tub faucet. The waste and overflow tubes are exposed so choose a drain that matches your clawfoot tub faucet's finish. Even if the clawfoot tub is positioned with the waste and overflow tubes hidden from plain view, the drain's overflow strainer and waste flange will be visible inside the bathtub and you will want them to match your faucet. Clawfoot tub faucet parts including adapters, couplers, and various connectors allow clawfoot tub faucets to be modified to fit irregular installations. Many clawfoot tub faucets can be customized with swing arms to provide adjustable centers or upgraded with elbows to convert from one mounting option to another.
