Clawfoot Supply
Clawfoot Tub Supply Lines: Required Plumbing
The most common clawfoot tub has faucet holes drilled in the wall of the tub on 3 3/8" centers. The supply lines are most often roughed in through the floor at 8" centers. Double offset clawfoot supply lines are designed to taper from 8" centers at the floor to 3 3/8" centers where they connect to the faucet. While this is the most common installation, it isn’t the only configuration. In some cases, especially in older homes, the supply lines may be roughed in through the floor at 3 3/8" centers to match the faucet holes in the tub. Single offset clawfoot supply lines are required for this configuration. Single offset clawfoot supply lines run parallel to each other from the floor to the faucet. Most large tubs have faucet holes drilled through the rim of the tub. Rim mounted faucets require deck mount or straight clawfoot supply lines. Tubs of all sizes are available without faucet holes. The faucet is usually installed on freestanding supply lines. In basement bathrooms, the supply lines may be roughed in through a wall instead of the floor. If the supply lines are roughed in through the wall, bathcock ells and flex hose may be required. Local anti-scald codes may require the faucet to be protected by a pressure balance system. Shop 4 Classics offers pressure balance supply systems for wall mounted and deck mounted faucets. Choosing the correct clawfoot supply lines can require more effort than one might first guess.
