Bungalow Bathrooms
Bungalow Bathrooms: Changing Styles with Constant Charm
Bungalow homes were popular from the early 1900's through the 1920's. The bathroom underwent a significant transformation during this period. Bathrooms of homes built in the early 1900's included the very first widely installed bath fixtures. These fixtures were adaptations of pre-indoor plumbing devices such as wash basins. Early bungalow bathrooms commonly shared similar features as other popular housing styles of the time. Cast-iron clawfoot tubs, pedestal sinks, and pull-chain toilets were common fixtures in early bungalow bathrooms. Plumbing fixtures including the faucets for the pedestal sinks, clawfoot tub faucets, and shower enclosures were most commonly nickel-plated brass. During the later half of the 1920's, fully enclosed bath tubs and modern low-tank toilets became standard. Chrome replaced polished nickel as the finish of choice and vanity sinks became popular.
