Bungalow Kitchens
Bungalow Kitchen Hardware: Classic Cabinet Hardware
Bungalows are known for their custom built cabinetry. Bungalow kitchens’ cabinetry appeared above and below the kitchen counter top. Cabinet doors were typically inset rather than the overlay doors that are common today. In place of knobs, cabinet doors often featured cupboard catches. Like the doors, drawers were flush with the rest of the cabinetry. Cup drawer pulls were often used rather than knobs. Cabinetry of traditional bungalows was most often painted; with white being the most popular color. Brass and nickel was the common finish for kitchen cabinet hardware of early bungalows. Chrome became a popular choice of finish for bungalows built during the 1930's. Arts & Craft themed bungalows reflect the principals of the Arts & Crafts movement which advocated a return to handcraftsmanship and simpler designs. Kitchens found in Arts & Crafts bungalows often featured lightly stained rather than painted cabinetry. Complementing this cabinetry were knobs and pulls with distinctive Arts & Crafts themes. Door and cabinet hardware took on a much more unrefined appearance. Earthy metals like copper and bronze were the metals of choice.
