Help Me Choose: Function

Function is defined by the purpose for which the door was designed. For example, a door that latches but does not lock is said to have a passage function.
Passage Tubular Latch

Passage Tubular Latch

Passage sets latch a door closed but do not provide a lock. These tubular latches are common for hall and closet doors. Actual latch may vary slightly from photo. Standard backset is 2 3/8"; please request 2 3/4" if required.

Privacy Tubular Latch

Privacy Tubular Latch

Privacy sets are similar to passage sets except that they have a pin on one side that locks the latch to keep unwanted guests from entering a room. Privacy latches are perfect for a bedroom or a bathroom. Actual latch may vary slightly from photo. Standard backset is 2 3/8"; please request 2 3/4" if required.

Mortise latches are box-shaped latches which fit in a mortise in the door stile. Passage mortise latches are common for halls and closets with antique, full mortise doors. Actual latch may vary slightly from photo. Backset for interior mortise latches is 2 1/2". A left hand passage mortise is for left hand doors.

Full Dummy

Full Dummy

Dummy sets (or non-active) are for non-latching doors. A spindle protrudes from a base which is screwed directly onto the door. The door knobs do not turn when used with dummy sets. Full dummy is for two sides of one door or one side of two doors.
