Tub and Shower Valve

What type of valve is provided?

Sign of the Crab tub and shower valves and diverter valves are individual valves joined by a sold brass nipple. Diverter valves divert water flow from one opening to another. For example, a diverter valve will redirect water flow from the tub spout to the shower head. When used with a tee they have 8" centers. When used with a diverter they have 9" centers. Different length nipples can be used to vary the centers.

What are pressure balance valves?

Most of us have experienced the shock of a sudden temperature change caused by a toilet flushing while we shower. Pressure balance valves sense sudden changes in hot or cold water pressure and adjust the pressure on the other side to reduce the shock of unexpected temperature changes. Pressure balance valves are now available for many of our tub and shower sets.

Thermostatic Valve

What is a thermostatic valve?

In addition to pressure balance, a thermostatic valve provides a temperature stop (maximum temperature). A thermostatic valve measures the water on the outlet of the valve to provide constant temperature throughout operation. The anti-scald feature of thermostatic valves offers an automatic temperature stop.

Which style of handle is best?

Crosspoint and lever handles provide better leverage than round knobs and are therefore recommended for seniors, children, or others who may have trouble turning round knobs. Most of our handles are clearly marked for hot and cold water. However, single-handled knobs may be better for children because kids will typically reach for only one handle. Kids are less likely to open a single-handled faucets in the full hot position.
